Towns and villages of the trail 

The Murray to Mountains Rail Trail connects some of the most vibrant townships in the High Country.

Explore the Milawa Gourmet Region and bustling Wangaratta. Discover historic tobacco kilns in Myrtleford, pedal to local produce in Bright and meander along the river to Harrietville. Roll to relaxed wine tastings and rural delights in Rutherglen. Pedal from National Heritage listed Beechworth to charming Yackandandah on 26km of gentle downhill trail.

Take your time on the 30km downhill cruise from Beechworth to the 2024 Good Food Guide-hatted Brown Brothers Cellar Door and Restaurant for a contemporary dining experience – whether it's a light lunch or a 5-course paired feast. Make it extra luxe with an e-bike from The Bike Hire Company – they can shuttle you back to Beechworth too.

Riding from Beechworth to Myrtleford? Gapsted Estate , just outside of Myrtleford, is a must-stop serving up a seasonal a la carte menu and emerging varietals, set against a stunning Alpine Valley backdrop. 

The Murray to Mountains trail connects you to adventures of all sizes in big nature.

Splash, holler and hoot in the Ovens River in Bright and pretty Porepunkah . Wind along gentle streams to Wandiligong and Harrietville .

Marvel at views of majestic Mount Buffalo between soaring trees on the pedal between Bright and Myrtleford . Rutherglen's picturesque rural beauty will delight as you roll past vineyards or to Lake Moodemere on The Loops network

AUTUMN VIBES 

The High Country is famed for its spectacular autumn colour displays, and there's no better way to experience the dazzling beauty than on two wheels.

Make a weekend of it and ride the 60km from copper coloured Beechworth , through Myrtleford's towering golden poplars, all the way to Bright for an endless sea of colour. There's serious photo opportunities along the way here, you'll want to make sure your phone is fully juiced.

Myrtleford Cycle Centre have a fleet of bikes and E-bikes ready to hire, or if you're starting out in Bright, All Terrain Cycles , Cyclepath and Bright Electric Bikes have the goods. In Rutherglen rent a tandem or standard bike from the Rutherglen Visitor Information Centre or E-bike from Rutherglen E-Bike Hire
