PEDAL BRIGHT TO POREPUNKAH

ONE TRAIL, MANY ADVENTURES

Take a mini family adventure from Bright to Porepunkah on the iconic Murray to Mountains Rail Trail.

The Murray to Mountains Rail Trail is one trail with many adventures. The picturesque 6km rail trail ride from Bright to Porepunkah is a family winner. From rainbow bridges to playful magpie sculptures and river splashes, this flat, off-road ride perfectly balances outdoor discovery with cheeky treats.

FOR MINI ADVENTURERS

Bright and Porepunkah are connected by one of the most family-friendly stretches of the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail.

While there are countless ways to map out your getaway, this off-road 6km one way ride (or 12km return) is a winner for younger riders, blending splash-filled fun with some of the trail’s most colourful landmarks.

HIRE A BIKE FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

Begin your morning in Bright by visiting All Terrain Cycles to get the whole family fitted with the right gear. Choose from e-bikes, kids bikes and bike trailers for those not quite ready for the full pedal yet.

PLAYFUL ART

Head to the start of the trail (just off Ireland Street in the centre of Bright) and follow the orange signs to Porepunkah.

As you pedal out of town, keep an eye out for the Baby Magpie sculpture by Melbourne-based artist Emily Floyd. It’s a playful local icon and a great first find for the kids to spot – bonus points if you visit the rest of the Magpie Family , waiting further down the trail in Tarrawingee.

KALEIDOSCOPE OF COLOUR

The next section of the trail is a parents dream: it’s sealed, completely off-road, and beautifully flat.

Cross over the Ovens River and onto Porepunkah and The Colour Bridge by Melbourne artist Skunk Control. This stunning installation features larger-than-life native flowers and butterflies that hug the path. By day, the transparent panels cast a kaleidoscope of colours onto the ground. Come back in the evening as lighting casts a magical glow.

COOL OFF WITH CHEEKY TREATS

Once you roll into Porepunkah, head on over to the Rail Trail Cafe to treat the family to a cheeky milkshake. Need a cool down? Tootle over to the Porepunkah Riverside Park and Playground .

The natural river pool is the ultimate spot for a supervised splash and play on the nearby playground before a cruisey, gentle pedal back toward Bright.

PIZZA LUNCH

Celebrate a successful ride with a late lunch at Bright Brewery , where the relaxed atmosphere and great food (who doesn't love pizza) make it a family staple.

There's even secure parking for the bike.

STAY AND SPLASH

When it’s time to kick back, Tasman Holiday Parks – South Bright offers an easy, comfy base with plenty of space for the kids to roam while you put your feet up.

The fun continues with an onsite splash park and slide, jump pad and playground.

WANT MORE ADVENTURE?

This riverside return ride is a perfect taster, but it’s just one way to enjoy Bright and surrounds.

Whether you follow this path to the letter or spend the whole afternoon by the river, it’s all about creating those easy, sun-drenched family memories.
