The locals say that after the valley was settled, shepherds yarded sheep on this flat at night keeping the dingoes at bay.
Camping is one of the best ways to enjoy this historic area and offers a great base for bush walking, fishing, four-wheel driving and relaxing. Camping with dogs is permitted but dogs must be controlled on a leash at all times.
Walkers can enjoy the Howqua Hills Historic Walk with its self guided interpretive panels. This easy 1.5 hour return walk follows the Howqua River from Sheepyard Flat to Fry’s Flat.
