Old Beechworth Gaol

Corner William Street & Sydney Road Beechworth Victoria

The Old Beechworth Gaol is one of Australia’s most significant post European cultural sites.

Its role in the chain of events that led to the execution of Ned Kelly is significant. It housed Ned’s mother, Ellen Kelly, many of the Kelly sympathisers and Ned himself, alongside his brother Dan and the rest of the Kelly gang.

The Gaol was constructed in the 1860's with granite quarried onsite and remains a stunning example of gold rush architecture.

Guided tours of the Old Beechworth Gaol run seven days a week at 11:00am and 12:00pm with more scheduled on busy holiday periods. Tour duration is approximately 45 minutes. Ticket sales can be found on the website.
