Mitta Mitta & Surrounds

Corryong Victoria

Nestled in the MItta Valley at the junction of the Mitta Mitta River and Snowy Creek, lies the charming little hamlet of Mitta Mitta.

The Mitta Mitta River is renowned for adrenaline pumping, world class white-water rafting. Experience towering granite river gorges and the exquisite wilderness of the Alpine National Park as you descend the rapids, or pick up a kayak from a local operator if you’d prefer a more leisurely trip.

The surrounding creeks and streams are perfect for the fishing enthusiast, too – rainbow trout, river blackfish, carp and the occasional macquarie perch can be found in these pristine waters.

Perfect for a relaxed meal, a special occasion, or just a lazy afternoon, the Mitta Mitta Brewing Co is a must-visit while you’re in this neck of the woods. Family-built from locally sourced and repurposed materials, this unique and welcoming space boasts spectacular views of Mt Bogong from the beer garden, with a cosy fire in the lounge area for the winter season. Beers are made in house from site-grown hops, and the kitchen offers a range of tasty meals with a focus on ethical and environmental awareness.

Just 17km from Mitta Mitta is the enormous Dartmouth Dam, the largest capacity dam in Victoria and the highest structure of its kind in Australia. At 4,000,000 megalitres, it’s well worth a visit – pop by the Dartmouth township and pub while you’re there.

A patchwork of walking trails around the town allows visitors to enjoy Mitta Mitta's incredible seasonality, views, flora and fauna, as well as many historic mining areas. The Pioneer Mine provides the backdrop to the town, and the walking track within its base takes around 45 mins to complete. As well as mining artefacts and tunnels, spy peregrine falcons nesting on the cliff faces, and lyrebirds tucked away in the damper areas of the mine.

Mitta Mitta is 400km or around four and a half hours drive from Melbourne.
