With the King River lapping at many of these vineyards the opportunity to spread the picnic rug at the edge of the vines and dip your toes in the water while enjoying sensational local fare is too good to be true. Paddle
The top end of the river (closer to Whitfield) delivers grade two and three rapids for those serious paddlers and the bottom end (closer to Wangaratta) is dotted with easy access points, sandy beaches and is perfect for beginner and younger paddlers - ideal for families eager to lounge in the shade of gum trees, skim a few rocks and stay cool during summer.
Fishing
With loads of easy access areas, the King is a favourite amongst local fisherman who are looking to hook a rainbow trout.
Top and tailed by Cheshunt and Milawa respectively the King Valley makes for a beautifdul day of winery road tripping and with Mansfield just on the other side of the range, it is a picturesque and quintessential high country food and wine journey that is made all the more appealing by your ability to dip your toes in one of Victorias most beautiful rivers.
