Graincorp Devenish Silos

Devenish Road Devenish Victoria

On your next weekend drive, take the scenic route to Devenish and make time for one of north-east Victoria's most memorable country stops.

Rising above this welcoming small town, the GrainCorp Devenish Silos have been transformed into a powerful open-air gallery by street artist Cam Scale. Unveiled on Anzac Day Eve in 2018, the first two murals mark the centenary of the end of the First World War and feature a First World War nurse alongside a modern military medic, honouring courage, service and the changing role of women in the military and community.

The story continues with a third silo, unveiled on Anzac Day 2019, paying tribute to the Australian Light Horse and the 50 young men and women from Devenish who enlisted in the First World War, including seven local diggers who never returned home.

Before you head off, look for the touching Remembrance Day memorial to Sally, the Explosive Detection Dog, unveiled in 2021.

Bring the family, pack the camera and linger a little longer. Visit the Agricultural Museum, call into the General Store, or settle in for a relaxed country meal at the Devenish Hotel before continuing your journey.
