If ever there was a perfect place for creating memories and reconnecting with family, Mount Buffalo is it. While close enough to the valley towns for services, you will feel a million miles away when tucked into your tent at night looking out to the stars with the camp fire crackling and a full belly of slow cooked campfire deliciousness.
If learning the art of family camping, opt for one of the beautiful and well serviced (hot showers and toilets) sites at the Lake Catani Camping Day Visitor Area. Accessible for all vehicles and the starting place for enough walks and small hikes to keep the whole family busy all weekend, you can’t go wrong.
Walks for kids under 10:
A great walk to set as a family challenge is the Big Walk – A particular favourite of the locals, this walk is challenging enough to take most of the day and work up a camp fire cooked feast but small enough that you can just take a day pack and simply zip up the tent. If staying at the Catani camp ground, the perfect finish to the Big Walk is a Big Swim in the lake before settling in for the night. Ahh the serenity!
If you’ve done a bit of overnight hiking and camping then you should pack the kids up and head out to Mt McLeod for the night. There’s a beautiful camping spot where the stars are especially bright and it’s close enough to do an a single over night.
