The Police Paddocks 

Up River Road Rutherglen Victoria

The Police Paddocks is a naturally formed island that was used to rest police horses in the late 1800's.

The island was accessed via a private bridge, the remnants of which can still be viewed. There is a large camp site, easily accessed year round by two and four wheel drive vehicles.

How to get there

Situated within Gooramadda State Forest, located north of Rutherglen with access off Up River Road.  From Rutherglen take the Corowa-Wahgunyah road towards Corowa and at 9.3km turn right (east) into the signposted Up River Road.  Follow Up River Road for 8.8km to the signposted Police Paddocks Road (this is 2.5km east of Shaws Flat Rd). {Lewis, C. Coming from the east off the Howlong Road take the Gooramadda Road and follow this west for 7.3km to the signposted Up River Road, and continue west for 2.2km to Police Paddocks Road.  Follow Police Paddocks Road north for 3.3km to entrance to Gooramadda State Forest with attractive grassed and well shaded campsites along the river.  Natural boat launch. {Lewis, C., Savage, C. 2013 p. 99}
