Poppies for Anzac and Everyone

1 Hanson Street Corryong Victoria
Hours: Always Open

A mural of a field of poppies on the Corryong Memorial Hall wall overlooking the Memorial Gardens depicts a scene that could be a World War One battlefield on the Western Front, beneath the slightly misty summer skies of northern France.

The mural shows the poignant silhouette of a soldier, standing in mourning before a temporary wooden cross used to mark the graves of the fallen before the Commonwealth War Graves created the cemeteries.

A quality artwork created for Anzac Day 2022 by talented mural artist Simon White, encourages people to take inspiration and strength from aesthetic beauty and its relationship to the natural world.

It is a reminder of the power of Remembrance, not just of the fallen, but those from all walks of life and ethnic groups who have served the community faithfully and made us what we are today. The mural might even remind and encourage everyone to believe that their community needs each and every person and their contributions.

For every Anzac Day, poppies bring unspoken memories into our midst as poppies often embody the memories and the unspoken words in Anzac Day commemorations. The spirit of Anzac is made up of an infinite number of stories and the number will grow as long as Australian service personnel continue to serve in some of the world's many trouble spots.
