Benalla Art Gallery – Janet Leith: Melancholia

Bridge Street Benalla Victoria

Janet Leith is a contemporary visual artist and art educator based in North East Victoria.

Inspiration for her work comes from the everyday, the interactions and actions of life, personal experiences and the captured moments of figures, their moods and emotions.

Working predominately with oils on canvas and linen, her paintings use layers of paint and colour and are highly detailed in nature.

Janet Leith’s exhibition Melancholia draws inspiration from Laurinda S. Dixon’s Privileged Piety: Melancholia and the Herbal Tradition published in the Journal of Historians of Netherlandish Art.
