A short ride away, the bright red Chinese-style bridge situated at “the Diggings” is a stark contrast to the surrounding bushland. The bridge was erected in 2003 by the Wandiligong community to commemorate the contribution of the Chinese during the 1860s. The Diggings was heavily mined for gold at this time, causing the town’s population to grow to almost 2,000, with around a quarter believed to be Chinese migrants.
