Feasting for the Family
Dining in the High Country is whatever you want it to be. Settle in at charming country pubs, linger in stylish cafés or indulge in innovative cuisine at elegant restaurants with growing reputations. Bringing together regional producers, winemakers, brewers and restaurateurs when you sit down to a meal in our region is often a family affair. The strong sense of family can be felt across the region but no more than when food and wine is involved.
La Dolce Vita
King Valley’s celebrated wine and food festival held annually in November is popular among families with children. A family-friendly celebration of Italian lifestyle, there are many events and dining experiences that the children will love. Pizzini Wines go out of their way to make the smaller gourmands welcome with kite making, roving circus entertainers, face painting and of course ice-cream.
Slide into amazing Mount Buffalo views
Feathertop Winery boasts a playground with a view to Mount Buffalo. While the kids may be more interested in the slide than the view parents can take it all in while enjoying a glass of wine and a la carte lunch on the stone-walled terrace of Alfresco Dining at Featherop Winery.
Adjacent to Brown Brothers’ cellar door, there is a playground to amuse the children for hours. Tuck into a beautiful meal at Patricia’s Table in Brown Brother’s Epicurean Centre for a fine dining experience while watching your children run around together in a secure, fun environment.
With delicious menus designed to satisfy children and adults alike, Café Derailleur is the perfect brunch spot. Tuck into bagels, muesli with fruit, eggs, French toast and more while your kids rummage through the boxes of toys and colouring tools. With excellent coffee and a colourful setting, this is the perfect local for families.
To market to market
Take the kids to meet our very friendly farmers. With farmers’ markets on every weekend somewhere across the region they will surely find something they love to eat; honey crisp apples, berries, cupcakes and chocolates are regional favourites. In summer the little ones will love picking their own strawberries, raspberries and cherries at the open farm gates.
