Top Rides for the Family

Our Rail Trail network’s sealed, off-road and mostly flat terrain offers a fun and safe adventure for families young and old. Native bushland, wetlands and pastures offer plentiful opportunities to spot wildlife and farm animals on the region’s Top Family Pedals. Refuel at kid-friendly eateries dishing up local produce within easy pedalling distance on the Murray to Mountains, Great Victorian or High Country Rail Trails. A number of the region’s cycling hubs have kid's bikes, baby seats, trailers and tag-alongs available for hire. Take on all or bite sized sections of these rides.

Murray to Mountains Rail Trail

Bright to Wandiligong (10km return):

This gentle trundle follows Morse’s Creek all the way to the village of Wandiligong. Savour a crisp apple from an orchard farm gate, keep your eyes peeled for paragliders as you pass a popular landing paddock and end up at Wandiful Produce for a cool drink and snack to refuel.

Bright to Porepunkah (12 km return):

Fuel up on a signature breakfast burrito while the kids make use of the great big sandpit at the Rail Trail Café. Or, continue onto Boynton's Feathertop Winery for an antipasto lunch from their DIY Deli watching little ones on the winery's playground.

Rutherglen to Wahgunyah (18 km return):

Upon arrival in Wahgunyah, revitalise those little legs with an old-fashioned milkshake a Pickled Sisters Café or indulge in lunch, before popping down to Pfeiffer Wines’ historic bridge to try your luck spotting resident turtles in Sunday Creek.

Great Victorian Rail Trail

Mansfield to Olivers Road (14km return):

Enjoy the sights and sounds of the Mullum Wetlands, spotting local flora and fauna from raised walkways, lookouts and in the bird hide. As the ride continues through beautiful farmland country, you’re sure to see some farm animals too!

High Country Rail Trail

Huon to Tallangatta (24km return):

As you pass through peaceful grazing country, play a game of spot the cow as they munch and drink at water’s edge on the other side of Lake Hume. Pull up in Tallangatta and choose from a tasty selection of cafés & eateries.
